Dr. Dre and Trent Reznor have teamed up together and are preparing to launch their own music streaming service. The service, Daisy, stems from Beats which Dre owns and Reznor acts as the Chief Creative Officer for. Beats recently purchased the streaming music service MOG and that will be the basic framework upon which Daisy will act. The main differentiation will be that the music discovery system will not rely on computers or algorithms (like Pandora etc…), but it will be determined by humans.
The market for streaming music services is a growing one, but increasingly difficult one to penetrate, and once you have market share, to actually turn a profit. The sheer awareness that Dre and Reznor can bring is a great start, but it will come down to the quality of product, as always.
