With the recently reported acquisition of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Zach Greinke, the Dodgers have taken over the Yankees as the biggest spenders in the MLB says Joel Sherman of the NY Post. It was the signing of Greinke to a reported 6 year deal worth $147 million that put them over the top, and it also overtakes C.C. Sabathia as the higher paid pitcher in the big leagues.
Unless the Yankees come out of their economic cocoon, they will not have the largest payroll in the game for the first time since 1998. With Greinke’s signing, the Dodgers are up to about a $220 million outlay — and they do not appear finished yet.
At least the Dodgers won something in 2012, right?
