The Cleveland Browns made a quarterback-related transaction on Monday.
The Browns waived veteran quarterback Bailey Zappe as part of a roster move to get defensive tackle Jowan Briggs to the active roster.
Two players, including former first-round pick Kadarius Toney, were also brought up to the active roster from the practice squad.
“For tonight’s game, the Browns have signed DT Jowon Briggs to the active roster and waived QB Bailey Zappe,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said on X.

Zappe, formerly of Houston Christian and Western Kentucky, made it to the NFL in 2022. The New England Patriots took him on in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Zappe played in 14 games in New England from 2022 through 2023. Zappe’s made eight career starts thus far, and he’s thrown for 2,053 career yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Zappe has completed 63.2 percent of his 304 career passes.
Regrettably, Zappe did not appear on the field this season. Cleveland has had its own quarterback dilemmas this season, with Deshaun Watson floundering. Jameis Winston has taken up the job, but they haven’t found any success anyway.
We’ll see if Zappe can find his way back into the NFL.
