It’s no real secret that the New York Yankees routinely have one of the highest payrolls in all of Major League Baseball. But that large payroll looks even more massive when it’s compared to some of the other teams that made it to the postseason this year.
As one fan pointed out on social media this week using data from Sportrac, the New York Yankees actually have a significantly higher payroll than all of the three American League Central teams in the American League Division Series combined.
The payroll for the New York Yankees this season for their 26-man active roster is $260,231,924.
That’s almost $100 million more than all three of the AL Central teams currently in the ALDS combined.
The Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, and Detroit Tigers combined payroll is $168,668,930.
Needless to say, it’s pretty insane news that the Yankees pay so much for their roster, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“The contrast highlights the financial disparities between teams in MLB, especially in different divisions,” one fan wrote on X.
“If the Yankees don’t win the AL, it’s a colossal failure by the organization,” another fan said.
“Best team money can buy? Hopefully not,” another fan added.
“This is ridiculous,” a fan said bluntly.
“This is an INSANE fact,” another fan said.
We’ll have to see whether or not this massive payroll leads to a championship for the Yankees.
