The Kansas City Chiefs come into the 2024-25 NFL season with hopes of continuing their newly formed dynasty with a third straight Super Bowl championship. However, they will be without one key offseason addition for their season-opening game in less than a week against the Baltimore Ravens.
To further improve their already dynamic offense, the Chiefs decided to bring in Marquise Brown on a one-year $7 million deal.
Unfortunately, his 2024-25 season has been dealt a setback this offseason, suffering a collarbone injury in the team’s season-opening preseason game.
It turns out, the injury will cause Brown to miss the early portion of the regular season. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters on Friday, saying that Brown is not expected to play in the team’s matchup against the Ravens next week.
The Chiefs do have a history of this injury at the position in the past. Former Chiefs star Tyreek Hill missed four games with the same injury in 2019.
Only time will tell whether Brown will suffer a similar fate early on in the upcoming season. But at least for the first game, Mahomes will have to rely on younger players like rookie Xavier Worthy and second-year wideout Rashee Rice to step up in Brown’s absence.
Despite the injury to Brown, the Chiefs are currently favored by three points over the Ravens in what will be an AFC Championship rematch from a year ago.
