The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a potential quarterback battle on their hands between Duke Blue Devils transfer quarterback Riley Leonard and returning quarterback Steve Angeli, leaving head coach Marcus Freeman with a bit of a decision about who will start. And this week, he opened up a little bit about the decision he is facing.
During a recent press conference, Marcus Freeman explained where the quarterback battle currently stands with Riley Leonard appearing to have the edge over Angeli.
“Riley is going with the ones. Steve’s going with the twos,” Marcus Freeman said according to On3. “I didn’t get a chance to watch a whole bunch of seven-on-seven. I was with the other group, but I’ll go back and watch film.”
While Freeman didn’t get to watch the quarterbacks the whole practice, he claims he was pleased with what he saw from both of them.
“The time that I was over there, I was pleased with both of them,” Freeman said. “They both made some good plays in those last two periods and, again, this is day one and I’m sure there’s a lot of learning but I’m excited for what they’ll do.”
We’ll have to see which one ultimately earns the job this fall.
