Russell Wilson has not even officially earned the starting quarterback role for the Pittsburgh Steelers yet, but it sounds like he is already making plans for a deep run toward the Super Bowl.
While discussing his health during a recent interview, Russell Wilson casually suggested that he is going to need to be prepared to play 20 or 21 games this season.
“I got a lot of reps in the offseason, we’re not just trying to rush it we got in. I said we’ve got 21 games to play,” Wilson said according to Behind the Steel Curtain. “You know, somebody said, ‘We’ve got to have you for 17 [games].’ I’m thinking 21 [games] or possibly 20 [games]. Hopefully in first place.”
“But that’s just got to be the mentality you have and so I’m excited to get to work every day. The guys are doing a tremendous job of learning and studying all the bonding we’re doing. We were sitting out on the on the porch last night just talking, having fun. Those are the kind of moments that you cherish, and I’ll be back sooner than later.”
By suggesting that he needs to be ready to play 20 or 21 games, Wilson is, of course, referencing a potential Super Bowl run for the Steelers.
Obviously, that’s a pretty bold thing to talk about before even earning the starting role.
