Slave Princess Leia Slave Princess Leia

This week, someone bought a unique piece of pop culture history as an iconic Star Wars costume was sold for an absolutely staggering price.

According to a report from the Associated Press, someone paid $175,000 at an auction for the “Slave Leia” costume that Carrie Fisher wore in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

“The gold bikini-style costume that Carrie Fisher wore as Princess Leia while making ‘Return of the Jedi’ in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise has sold for $175,000, according to the auction house that handled the sale,” the Associated Press reported this week.

While the costume is authentic, it is not necessarily the one that was worn on camera. The Associated press reports that the costume was “screen tested and worn by Fisher on the movie’s set” but was swapped out for a more comfortable version of the costume for filming.

Fisher wore the costume as Leia during the opening scenes of the movie which took place in the palace of iconic villain Jabba The Hut. In the film, Leia took on the role of a slave as the heroes pulled off an elaborate ruse to free their friend Han Solo, who was being held captive in the palace.

The notoriously scant outfit has since become iconic in pop culture, and now someone has paid a hefty price to have it for themselves.
