Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar wide receiver Mike Evans decided to stay in Tampa Bay this offseason, signing a two-year deal to remain a member of the Buccaneers back in March. But it sounds like he very much considered playing for two other teams, including the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.
During a recent interview with NFL Media, Mike Evans revealed that before he decided to re-sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he considered signing with the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I mean, in the back of my mind, I’m thinking Houston, Kansas City,” Evans told NFL Media. “I love Pat Mahomes’ game. I’m thinking those two teams. And I’m obviously thinking the Bucs.”
Houston is Evans’ hometown team and every wide receiver in the league would want to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes. But ultimately, Evans decided to remain in Tampa Bay, instead.
“I mean, I’ve been here my whole career,” Evans said. “And that was a goal of mine, obviously. . . . It would’ve been extremely hard, if I hit free agency, to leave here. But this is where my family knows. My kids were born here. My wife’s been here a long time.”
We’ll have to see how he performs for the Bucs this year.
