Since the Washington Commanders selected reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft last month, the team has seemingly been quite impressed with the way he has performed and developed. But that doesn’t mean they’re going to speed up his development plan.
During a press conference on Friday, Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said that they “have an effective plan” in place for rookie quatterback Jayden Daniels and that they have decided that they are “really gonna stay true” to that plan even if he continues to impress during practice.
“He’s doing outstanding,” Quinn said at a press conference according to Pro Football Talk. “We’re really pleased with where we are, but we’re not changing the timelines or the guidelines on how we’re gonna approach things.”
It’s not clear what exactly this plan is for Daniels, but it sounds like the team is being patient with the young quarterback’s development. However, the team would obviously like Daniels to be ready to take the opening snaps as the team’s starting quarterback when they officially begin the regular season in September.
We’ll have to see how his development continues to progress.
