Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day knows his job performance is ultimately judged on how his team plays against the Michigan Wolverines.
That said, it’s understandable why every loss to Michigan, like last year’s 30-24 contest, might stick with Day. It’s natural for a coach to feel a game got decided by a few small things that could have turned the game the other way.
That appears to be the case for Day regarding last year’s six-point defeat in Ann Arbor.
Speaking at Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis, Day revealed he thinks Ohio State “should have” won the game.
“That was a very good team, but we still should’ve won the game. We didn’t, so why was that? What do we need to do? It starts with making sure the right people are in the right seats, making sure the personnel is right, making sure the scheme is right and you go from there. But yeah, those are the kinds of decisions you try to make in the offseason,” Day said.
As many sports fans know, it’s easy to debate what could have gone differently in any contest. But Ohio State will need more than a moral victory this year against Michigan when the ancient rivals meet in Columbus.
Otherwise, Day could be coaching for another team next year.
