The Minnesota Vikings and J.J. McCarthy agreed on the first-round pick’s rookie contract.
On Friday morning, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings and McCarthy agreed on an industry-standard four-year contract. According to Schefter, the contract is fully guaranteed.
Schefter reported the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

“J.J. McCarthy is signing a four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $21.85milliont hat includes a $12.71million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option,” Schefter said.
McCarthy saw terrific success at Michigan. He arrived in 2021 and helped lead the Wolverines to three consecutive College Football Playoff appearances. He led the charge in full as a starter in 2022 and 2023, when Michigan won the National Championship. McCarthy was instrumental in the Wolverines’ first championship run since the famed 1997 season.
The Vikings chose McCarthy tenth overall in this year’s NFL Draft. After Kirk Cousins exited Minnesota for Atlanta in the offseason, the Vikings had to make a move. Make a move they did, as they went up to grab the Michigan quarterback. They’re hoping that move pays off for a team still seeking its first Super Bowl championship.
