World Golf Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie recently questioned whether or not Tiger Woods was still good enough to compete in professional golf, and Woods was quick to clap back.
During a recent interview with Rick Broadbent of The London Times, Colin Montgomerie suggested that he felt it was time for Tiger Woods to retire from professional golf.
“Aren’t we there? I’d have thought we were past there,” Montgomerie said. “There is a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye, but it’s very difficult to tell Tiger it’s time to go. Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more realistic.”
But in a press conference ahead of the Open Championship this week, Woods had a pretty clear message for Montgomerie on his retirement status.
I think it’s the “I do” at the end that really brings it home. Exquisite stuff. pic.twitter.com/fmuxQNW3T8

“Well, as a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin’s not,” Woods said in a video shared by Kyle Porter of CBS Sports. “He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do.”
Clearly, Woods is not ready to walk away from the game of golf just yet, and he isn’t going to let anybody else make that decision for him.
