The mother of former Duke Blue Devils star Kyle Filipowski denies accusations his fiancée groomed her son.
Filipowski married Caitlin Hutchinson, his former babysitter, who is seven years older than him.
“There will be things forthcoming,” Amanda Hutchison told The Daily Mail from her home in Alabama.
Hutchison added that the couple are “laying low” amid the social media firestorm created by the accusations.
“What we’ve always said to the kids is, for everything that’s good, if you have faith at all there will be adversaries, there’s always a negative for every positive,” she said. “So it’s how we weather those storms.”
Filipowski was projected as a first-round pick before falling the Utah Jazz in the second round of last week’s draft.
ESPN reporter Jonathan Givony cited “off-court goings on” about the girlfriend.
Flilipowski’s 29-year-old brother, Daniel, fanned the controversy on Twitter, the social media platform currently marketed as X.
Filipowski blamed “Mormon grooming and brainwashing” and suggested readers “join some dots.”
Though he didn’t name his brother’s fiancée, she was raised within the Mormon faith.
“My brother is a victim and was, unfortunately, a ‘perfect’ pawn and target for this girl’s lifelong scheme based on his human characteristics and growing potential as a high-level prospect, which started taking place in 2019, exactly at the time when she began her pursuit of him.”
Filipowski has yet to comment on the controversy.
