Throughout his career in the NFL, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has grown into one of the biggest stars in the entire league. But in a surprising turn of events, it doesn’t sound like he actually enjoys his fame and stardom.
During a recent interview at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Joe Burrow revealed that he is actually a “pretty private person” and really struggles with his fame and popularity as he typically tries “to keep as much as I can to myself.”
“That’s something that I’ve struggled with for my entire career. I’m a pretty private person, and so I try to keep as much as I can to myself,” said Burrow. “But I’m starting to branch out a little bit and get a little more comfortable sharing other parts of my personality. So I’m just now starting to feel that process out, and this is really the first year that I felt comfortable sharing more sides of myself with the fans, I would say.”
Burrow has never really given this impression as he appears confident and comfortable in interviews and podcast appearances, but it sounds like he would be most comfortable just keeping everything to himself.
Obviously, that isn’t really an option when you’re the face of an NFL franchise and one of the best and most popular players in the league, so it sounds like Burrow is doing his best to adapt. But it’s certainly interesting that it doesn’t come naturally to him.
