Over the past several years, Alvin Kamara has been one of the biggest stars and most productive players for the New Orleans Saints. But it sounds like he is not happy with his current contract situation and there’s a chance he could hold out from training camp as a result.
During a recent appearance on SportsCenter, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN gave a bit of an update on the situation regarding Alvin Kamara as he suggested that there is “not really much traction between the two sides” in their contract negotiation and there’s a chance that Kamara could hold out from training camp until a deal gets done, which is obviously a brutal situation from the Saints.
“Alvin Kamara, who’s got two years left on his contract, he wants a reworked deal,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “The problem is in 2025 he’s due $25 million of non-guaranteed money. That’s not tenable for either party. So Kamara would be open to a reworked two year deal with some stronger guarantees. Christian McCaffrey got something done with the 49ers recently, so that maybe resets the market for the running back position a little bit for Kamara.
“So not really much traction here between the two sides. They’re going to try to work something out. But you know, he didn’t show up for the last day of minicamp, maybe he doesn’t show up for the first day of training camp.”
Kamara actually left Saints minicamp early as a result of his contract situation, providing further evidence that the two sides may not be all that close to a resolution.
