Over the past couple of years, Angel Reese has surged in fame and popularity primarily as a result of her on-court rivalry with women’s basketball superstar Caitlin Clark. But it doesn’t seem like she’s all that happy with the way that she is portrayed in the media.
During a recent interview with Steve Greenberg of the Chicago Sun-Times, Angel Reese made it very clear that she does not trust the way that the media characterizes her words. As a result, she has decided to keep her interviews “short and sweet.”
“I know how y’all like to twist my words, so I’m just keeping it short and sweet,” Reese said according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“I can’t trust any of y’all,” Reese claimed. “So I’m just letting you know — short and sweet.”
Reese has played sort of a villain role in her rivalry with Caitlin Clark. But she’s made it clear that this is a role that she is willing to accept for herself in order to grow the game of basketball.
“People are pulling up to games, we’ve got celebrities coming to games, sold-out arenas, just because of one single game. And just looking at that, I’ll take that role. I’ll take the bad guy role. And I’ll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates,” Reese said earlier this month.
“And I know I’ll go down in history. I’ll look back in 20 years and be like ‘Yeah, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person. It’s because of me too.’ And I want y’all to realize that.”
During her most recent game against Clark, Reese even went as far as to wear a pair of custom sneakers inspired by The Joker, the iconic villain of the DC Comic superhero Batman – an obvious nod to her role as a villain to Clark.
But even if she has accepted this role for herself, she clearly is not happy with the way she is portrayed in the media.
