Over the past couple of years, Angel Reese has emerged as a clear rival for women’s basketball sensation Caitlin Clark, beginning with their matchups in the NCAA Tournament at the college level and now extending to the WNBA. Reese has become sort of a villain for Clark as she has surged in popularity, but it sounds like she’s happy to embrace that role.
For Sunday afternoon’s game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, Angel Reese wore special custom Reebok sneakers that were inspired by the Joker – the signature villain of the iconic DC Comics superhero Batman.
“Angel Reese will wear custom Joker-inspired Reebok Solutions tomorrow,” Nice Kicks said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, by wearing shoes inspired by one of the most iconic villains in history, it seems that Reese is embracing her role as a villain to Clark, who has established herself as the hero or protagonist of the WNBA.
Reese has actually spoken openly about embracing this role.
“People are pulling up to games, we’ve got celebrities coming to games, sold-out arenas, just because of one single game. And just looking at that, I’ll take that role. I’ll take the bad guy role. And I’ll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates,” Reese said.
“And I know I’ll go down in history. I’ll look back in 20 years and be like ‘Yeah, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person. It’s because of me too.’ And I want y’all to realize that.”
Her custom sneakers were another sign of that this week.
