Quarterback Trey Lance joined the Dallas Cowboys before the start of the 2023 NFL season, but it was clearly an adjustment period before he was totally comfortable in the offense and he saw no action in any games last season. But it sounds like he’s getting more comfortable and the team is gaining more trust in him.
During a recent press conference, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy made it clear that Trey Lance faced a “learning curve” with the team, but that he is “close to being a master” of the team’s offense now.
“Young quarterback comes into a new system, so you got the learning curve, but now starting to get the timing with the routes,” McCarthy said according to Pro Football Talk. “He’s close to being a master of the system. He has a really high understanding. He’s communicating very well. He looks more and more comfortable. He just needs reps. I know I say that every time I talk about him. He just needs as many reps as he can.”
Lance is still behind both Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush on the team’s depth chart, but it sounds like he’s at least making progress with the team.
