Recently, five middle school girls in West Virginia refused to compete at a track and field competition after a 13-year-old transgender girl was allowed to compete in the competition. But the girls are insisting that they are not transphobic claiming they were simply standing up for what they see as right.
Four of the five girls recently joined the “Gaines For Girls” podcast with anti-trans activist Riley Gaines where they explained their decision a little bit as the girls insisted that they do not hate transgender people and are not transphobic.
“I still love those people, and I don’t want to hurt their feelings in any way,” one of the girls stated. “That’s why we did this in such a respectful manner… We’re not transphobic.”
“I don’t think that we’re transphobic for standing up for what’s right,” another added. “And if that’s what they’re going to call us, then it’s just small-minded people that do not care about the well-being of women.”
A federal court recently ruled that a West Virginia law blocking transgender athletes from competing could not be enforced and the transgender girl must be allowed to compete in the event against other girls. These five girls were protesting that decision.
