Transgender golfer Hailey Davidson has dreamed of competing on the LPGA Tour, and she is now one step closer to possibly playing in a major tournament: the U.S. Women’s Open.
This week, Hailey Davidson earned an alternate spot for the upcoming U.S. Open by winning a three-way playoff at a sectional USGA U.S. Women’s Open qualifier in Bradenton, Florida. As part of the playoff, Davidson had to top two-time LPGA winner Jasmine Suwannapura.
After winning the event in thrilling fashion, Davidson is now the first alternate for the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open. This means that if automatic qualifiers Amalie Zalsman or Pimpsa Sisutham are unable to compete when the U.S. Women’s Open begins on May 30, Davidson would have the chance to step in and compete in the major tournament.
If this happens, Davidson would obviously make history as the first transgender woman ever to compete in the U.S. Women’s Open. This also comes after she was banned from competing against other women at a regional event two months ago.
It has been a long path, but Davidson has never given up her dream of playing on the LPGA Tour, and now she is closer than she has ever been before in her life.
