Donald Trump and his supporters like to poke fun at current United States President Joe Biden for his age and his mental lapses, but Trump is also having some pretty embarrassing mental lapses of his own lately, and that included one during a speech this weekend when he confused former President Jimmy Carter for former tennis star Jimmy Connors.

During a rally in Wildwood, New Jersey this weekend, Donald Trump attempted to make a point about how former President Jimmy Carter had a “bad reputation” but was “brilliant” compared to Joe Biden. But instead, Trump called him “Jimmy Connors,” a former world number one tennis player in the 1970s.

“Jimmy Connors is— He’s also happy. Jimmy is a very happy man. Both of them because, you know what, they want him out. Jimmy Connors had a bad reputation. Right now, he is considered a totally brilliant president by comparison (to Joe Biden). Right now he is a totally brilliant president by comparison,” Trump said according to Newsweek.

The mixup even prompted a response from the actual Jimmy Connors on social media, who made a joke about the gaffe, replacing Jimmy Carter’s face with his on an old Carter campaign ad.

“Who knew?! #Connors2024” he said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This isn’t the first time Trump has mistaken a president for someone else as he has accidentally referred to Biden as Barack Obama multiple times over the past few years.

Needless to say, these are embarrassing mistakes for Trump on the campaign trail.
