The Washington Commanders made the move to get their quarterback of the future in LSU standout Jayden Daniels in the 2024 NFL Draft. And naturally, this meant that the team had to let go of another quarterback shortly after on Tuesday.
Washington’s quarterback room is quite deep at the moment, with Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, Jeff Driskel, Sam Hartmann, and Jake Fromm all on the roster.
On Tuesday, Fromm found himself as the odd man out in the team’s quarterback room, getting released by the organization.
It’s not exactly all that surprising of a move. Very few teams field even four quarterbacks, so it isn’t all that much of a shock that five quarterbacks were too many for the Commanders at the time.
For Fromm, this continues what has been a troubling trend surrounding his NFL career thus far. The former Georgia quarterback has struggled to stick on with teams at the NFL level, spending time with the Buffalo Bills and the New York Giants since being selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Thus far, Fromm has only seen action in the NFL in the 2021 season with the Giants, starting just two games while completing 45 percent of his passes.
It’s certainly worth asking whether this could potentially be the end of the road for Fromm when it comes to chances in the NFL. Obviously, only time will tell. But this much turnover in only four years clearly isn’t a great sign for him.
