The Atlanta Falcons got a lot of criticism last month when the team decided to select Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft just weeks after signing veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year contract worth more than $100 million. Despite this, it sounds like the Falcons were still trying to bring in yet another quarterback this offseason.
According to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Atlanta Falcons tried to sign former CFL star Nathan Rourke before he was given to the Atlanta Falcons.
“The Atlanta Falcons — who signed QB Kirk Cousins during free agency and then selected QB Michael Penix during the draft — put in a waiver claim this week for former Patriots and Jaguars QB Nathan Rourke, who was awarded to the New York Giants, per source,” Schefter said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

In addition to Cousins and Penix, the Falcons also have veteran quarterback Taylor Heinicke on the roster, who has started 29 games in the NFL throughout his career including four games for the Falcons last season.
Needless to say, they probably didn’t need Rourke too.
