Caitlin Clark is expected to sign a massive eight-figure deal with Nike that will also include her own signature shoe with the sportswear giant, but it sounds like NBA superstar Steph Curry did everything he could to try to get her to sign for his brand with Under Armour instead.
According to a report from The Athletic, Steph Curry was involved in a meeting between Caitlin Clark and Under Armour representing his Curry Brand.
“Golden State’s Stephen Curry — who launched Curry Brand as a signature, standalone venture with Under Armour — participated in the companies’ meeting with Clark, industry sources said. Curry Brand signed Kings star De’Aaron Fox as its first NBA athlete late last year, and inked University of South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley to a multiyear NIL deal, making her the first college athlete to partner directly with the company,” The Athletic reported on Wednesday night.
Obviously, Clark opted to sign with Nike instead, but it’s certainly interesting that Curry was involved in those sort of conversations with Clark, especially considering that Clark’s style of play heavily resembles Curry’s.
Clark is set to begin her WNBA career next month after becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever on Monday.
