Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes has accomplished more in his first six seasons as a starter than the vast majority of quarterbacks accomplish in their entire careers. He’s on pace to be one of, if not the greatest quarterback of all time, but he doesn’t think he’s even in the conversation yet.
During a recent interview with Sean Gregory of TIME, Patrick Mahomes made it clear that he thinks he is “nowhere near” the greatest player of all time yet, and that to reach the point of being able to challenge Tom Brady or some other players, he’ll have to sustain this success for a long time.
“You have to build a consistency of a career,” Mahomes told Gregory. “You see that in any sport. I’ve had a great run. I think I’ve done a great job so far. But it’s hard to take away from what Tom did for so long, what Peyton Manning did, or Aaron Rodgers. There are so many guys, they were at such a high level for such a long time. In order to be in that conversation, you have to do that on a year-to-year basis. You can’t take it for granted that you did it the year before.”
He may not be there yet, but he’s certainly well on his way.
