Over the past week, numerous contract extensions, short-term deals, and significant trades have reshaped the outlook for several NFL franchises. These moves indicate that some teams aggressively pursue success in 2024 and beyond, while others focus on rebuilding for long-term competitiveness.
With a flurry of new deals in place, teams can now start evaluating their strategies for the upcoming season.
Free Agency Winners :
Chiefs
Despite a relatively low-key approach to free agency, the Chiefs made significant moves to secure key players for the future. One of the highlights was re-signing star defensive tackle Chris Jones to a lucrative five-year, $158.75 million contract, with $95 million guaranteed. Additionally, the team retained linebacker Drue Tranquil on a three-year, $19 million deal, with $13 million guaranteed.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also bolstered the team’s roster by restructuring his contract, which freed up $21.6 million in cap space for the 2024 season. This financial flexibility enabled the Chiefs to sign wide receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year contract worth $7 million initially, with the potential to earn up to $11 million. While Kansas City’s approach to free agency may not have been flashy, the team’s ability to retain key players and address areas of need represents a solid start to the offseason.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons have emerged as one of the biggest winners in the early stages of free agency. In addition to securing quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Falcons strengthen their talented group of skill position players by signing wide receiver Darnell Mooney to a three-year, $39 million contract.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles made several key moves in free agency, including signing star running back Saquon Barkley to a three-year, $37 million deal. Barkley’s addition is expected to alleviate some of the pressure on quarterback Jalen Hurts’ running game, as Barkley brings both physicality and speed to the Eagles’ rushing attack.
Philadelphia also secured Chauncey Gardner-Johnson with a multi-year extension and signed former Buccaneers linebacker Devin White to a one-year, $7.5 million contract.

Bills
Due to their aggressive pursuit of the Super Bowl in the past two seasons, the Bills faced limited cap space entering this offseason.
Consequently, they were compelled to make significant cuts and part ways with key players like Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White, and Mitch Morse. Gabe Davis and Leonard Floyd also departed in free agency, while Micah Hyde is unlikely to return.
Arizona
Arizona had the fifth-highest cap space entering the offseason but made relatively modest moves, signing offensive tackle Jonah Williams and defensive tackle Justin Jones. However, they hold the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draft, providing a potential opportunity to make a significant impact.
Panthers
