The New York Giants have made it pretty clear that they intend to move forward with Daniel Jones as the team’s starting quarterback this coming NFL season, but it sounds like the team has not ruled out the possibility of selecting a quarterback with the No. 6 overall pick in the draft – or even trading up to select one.
During an interview at the NFL’s annual league meetings in Florida this week, New York Giants team co-owner John Mara made it clear that if the Giants front office found a quarterback in the draft that they were very fond of, he would be in favor of selecting a quarterback in the first round.
“If they fall in love with a quarterback and believe that it’s worth pick No. 6 or moving up, I certainly would support that,” Mara said according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
The New York Giants signed Daniel Jones to a long-term contract extension before the start of the 2022 season and seem to be moving toward starting him for the upcoming season, but this seems to indicate that the team would be willing to bring in another quarterback, as well.
Mara also made it clear that the team has not yet decided what it will do with the pick, so a lot could still change.
