Earlier this month, celebration turned to tragedy when a shooting broke out at a parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl LVIII championship, killing one woman and injuring more than 20 others. And now, one Navy veteran is demanding gun control.
In response to the senseless shooting, nearly 200 people gathered at Washington Square Park on Saturday afternoon for the Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense rally where they demanded that Missouri lawmakers pass legislation to help control guns and prevent future mass shootings.
One of those in attendance was Sarah Deeder, a Navy veteran who is calling for more gun control.
“I feel the only way that we can make change happen is to put that pressure on our lawmakers … show up and tell them that we are worth more than the money that they’re lining their pockets with,” Deeder said according to KCUR. “We are not ‘KC Strong’ until we change our gun laws. I love the campaign and we like to say how great we are. But looking around today, we can’t be proud of what’s going on in our city.”
The incident left the city grieving the loss of 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan and wounded 22 others.
