Traditionally, the sitting president of the United States conducts an interview with the network broadcasting the Super Bowl ahead of the big game. But current United States President Joe Biden declined to do the interview with Fox last year, and it sounds like he’s declining again this year with CBS.
According to a report from Variety Magazine, Joe Biden has declined to take part in the traditional presidential Super Bowl interview for the second consecutive year.
“President Joe Biden will not take part in an exchange during the pre-game festivities leading up to CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII on February 11,” Variety wrote on Saturday. “The Paramount Global news operation had been in discussions with the White House in recent weeks and had invited President Biden to take part in a traditional conversation.”
Last year, Biden declined to participate in an interview with Fox News – an overwhelmingly conservative-leaning news network. However, Biden does not have a strained relationship with CBS, so it’s not exactly clear why he has decided not to participate in the interview.
Next year’s Super Bowl will take place following the 2024 presidential election, so it’s not clear who will be the president at the time of the big game next season.
