The Kansas City Chiefs knew they were going to be without All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney in Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens after he suffered a pectoral injury last week, but it looks like the Chiefs will be without another key player in Sunday’s AFC Championship game as well.
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay was listed as questionable to play all week after he suffered a neck injury during last week’s win over the Buffalo Bills and the Chiefs made it clear that they were hopeful to have him back this week. But 90 minutes before kickoff, Gay was officially ruled out.
This is obviously a big loss for the Chiefs especially as they take on Lamar Jackson, who is a dynamic running threat at the quarterback position.
If the Chiefs are going to pull off the upset win over the Ravens and clinch another Super Bowl berth, they’re obviously going to have to be able to slow down Jackson and limit his production, especially on key downs and in the red zone. Gay would have had a key role in doing this for the team, and now they’ll have to try to find a way to slow down Jackson without him.
