It’s not often that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been an underdog in his NFL career. But the few times that it has happened, things have gone pretty well for both Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Since becoming a full-time starter in the league, Patrick Mahomes has been an underdog just 11 times in his career. And in those games, he has a pretty insane record of success. Not only are Mahomes and the Chiefs 9-1-1 against the spread in those games, but they also have a staggering 8-3 overall record straight up in those games.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will have a chance to improve that record this week as the team enters Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens as 4.5-point underdogs. And based on a stat shared by David Purdum of ESPN, that line might be a bit of a bad omen for the Ravens.
As Purdum points out, the last time the Chiefs were as big as a 4.5-point underdog was just the third start of Mahomes’ career in Week 3 of the 2018 season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game, Mahomes went 23 for 28 through the air with six touchdown passes.
We’ll have to see if Mahomes can keep up this insane dominance as an underdog once again on Sunday.
