The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of a deep run through the playoffs after victories in the first two rounds, but it sounds like they’ll likely be playing the remaining postseason games without one of their top players on the offensive side of the ball.

This week, All-Pro starting left guard Joe Thuney was ruled out of Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens with a pectoral injury he sustained during the team’s win over the Buffalo Bills last week. According to league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it sounds like that injury is expected to sideline him for the Super Bowl even if the Chiefs advance that far.

“#Chiefs All-Pro guard Joe Thuney received varying opinions for his pectoral injury, sources say. Some experts believe it’s torn, others believe it’s a strain. Surgery is being considered. If KC advances to the Super Bowl, Thuney isn’t ruled out, but he’s considered a long-shot,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This is obviously a major blow for the Chiefs as Thuney has been without a doubt their most consistent and dominant offensive lineman this season. We’ll have to see how the team performs without him.
