There has never been a transgender woman to qualify for an LPGA Tour card, but transgender women’s golfer Hailey Davidson is trying to change that – and she took a huge step toward accomplishing that goal earlier this week with a win in an important tournament.

This week, Hailey Davidson won the Women’s Classic of the NXXT Women’s Pro Tour based in Florida when she overcame a three-stroke deficit with just four holes remaining in the final round to beat competitor Lauren Miller after two playoff holes. That victory pushed her one step closer to making some history by potentially becoming the first transgender woman ever to qualify for an LPGA Tour card.

NXXT is giving away 10 exemptions to the Epson Tour, the LPGA’s developmental tour, to its top five point leaders at the end of this season. And as it stands, Davidson is currently at the top of the NXXT standings with 1,320 points, meaning she will likely have a chance of making the Epson Tour, which would then give her a chance of earning her way onto the LPGA Tour.

We’ll have to see whether or not Davidson is able to make history as the first transgender woman to qualify for an LPGA Tour card. She’s certainly well on her way.
