Since 2015, Corey Dennis has served on the Ohio State Buckeyes coaching staff in some capacity, beginning as an intern under his father-in-law Urban Meyer in 2015 before ultimately earning the role of quarterbacks coach as a full-time member of Ryan Day’s coaching staff in 2020. But despite his long tenure with the Buckeyes, it sounds like he is being demoted.
On Friday, Ohio State announced that the team had hired Bill O’Brien as the team’s new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Obviously, O’Brien’s role as quarterbacks coach conflicts with the position that Corey Dennis has held at Ohio State since 2020. As a result, Ohio State announced that Dennis is expected to move into “a still-to-be-determined role with the program.”
“Brian Hartline will be co-offensive coordinator in addition to continuing in his capacity as one of the nation’s premier wide receivers coaches. It is anticipated that Corey Dennis, quarterbacks coach the past four seasons, will transition into a still-to-be-determined role with the program,” Ohio State announced in a release on Friday.
It’s obviously not clear what exactly Dennis’ role within the program will be going forward, but his contract as a full-time assistant coach with the team ran through the 2023 season and it’s clear that O’Brien is replacing his previous coaching duties.
