The Pittsburgh Steelers have been without starting quarterback Kenny Pickett for the past two games with an ankle injury, and it sounds like he’s going to miss another one this week.
On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced that veteran Mason Rudolph would be the team’s starting quarterback during this week’s AFC North divisional showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals. The team started Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback in each of the past two games, but he was unable to lead the Steelers to victory.
This comes ahead of a massive game for Pittsburgh’s postseason hopes. The Steelers have lost three consecutive games and are seeing their playoff hopes fade a little bit. And Rudolph seems to understand the importance of the situation.
“We feel a sense of urgency and coach [Mike] Tomlin has challenged the whole offense — the passing game to make improvements and you know, the offense as a whole to score more points,” Rudolph said in his press conference earlier in the week. “So, that falls heavily upon the quarterback to be the catalyst for that. So, we’re all working in that direction, we want to score points, I want to get the ball to the playmakers that we have and move the chains.”
We’ll have to see how Rudolph performs in what is likely a must-win game for the Steelers on Saturday.
