Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains confident in his receivers despite the recent criticism about their performance.
Receivers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney have failed to make receptions that cost them games against the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots.
Mahomes, however, isn’t throwing them under the bus.
“You keep believing in him, man,” Mahomes told Kansas City’s 610 Sports Radio in a conversation about Toney, according to Fox News.
Mahomes went on to cite his uptick in interceptions as costly to the team, too.
“Mistakes happen. I’m not always perfect. I have a lot of interceptions this year, and I think it’s something where you just got to keep believing because I know the guys believe in me. And I keep firing.”
Mahomes revealed that what frustrates him most is the position he’s consistently putting his defense in.
“I think the biggest part is you’re frustrated because you’re putting the defense in a bad position,” Mahomes said. “I had two interceptions. Both of them put the defense in short fields, and they were able to hold them to a field goal on one of those. It’s hard whenever a defense is playing that well to give the offense a short field.”
The Chiefs host the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas.
