As protests of racial inequality take place all over the NFL, a number of people are weighing in on this hot-button topic. What started with Colin Kaepernick taking a knee over police brutality has advanced to encompass a whole lot more.
Def Jam co-founder and philanthropist Russell Simmons had thoughts on the protests this week or specifically the lack of them. He called out teams for staying in the locker room and not joining others in the protests.

“Locking arms and staying in the locker room hiding is for bitches. I’m sorry I’m so upset. WTF. So we not sure if black lives matter,” Simmons tweeted on Sunday. While the sentiment of the tweet was impassioned, the use of the word “bitches” was unneeded.
Many NFL players were motivated to participate in the protests after President Trump said that NFL owners should take action when a player “disrespects” the flag. “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out. He’s fired,” Trump said during a speech last Friday.
Although Simmons apologized it just adds onto a situation that is filled with plenty of tension. Simmons was previously a friend of President Trump before distancing himself this past campaign season.
