The devastation that has taken place after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, Texas has been nothing short of shocking. It is a sobering reality that a natural disaster such as a hurricane can destroy entire cities.
Many have stepped up and tried to make sure that the people in Houston have a smooth transition back to their homes. One person that is joining and wanting to help is vice president of Vans Shoes, Steve Van Doren. He is the son of co-founder Paul Van Doren. Steve and Vans are bringing 5,000 pairs of sneakers, 4,000 shirts, and about 5,000 pairs of socks and are headed for Texas.
“I represent Vans and personally have many friends and employees in Houston that have been affected by the storms,” Van Doren said to Sole Collector. “I have been waiting patiently for more of the road to open up and for some of the water to recline…Vans has always been about people helping people. We may be based in California, but I want to be in Texas to hand out shoes, socks, and shirts to anyone who may be in need of dry clothes.”
This isn’t a new thing for the younger Van Doren. He also did this after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans back in 2005. You can follow along with his trip to Houston on his Instagram page here.
