Anyone care to watch a nice little game of H.O.R.S.E. between the late Pistol Pete Maravich and George “The Iceman” Gervin? This video has been around since 2008, but we are just now seeing it courtesy of our favorite NBA Reddit channel. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Pistol Pete’s YouTube channel, you really should as it is a disgustingly wonderful rabbit hole. The game of H.O.R.S.E. took place back in 1978 and everything about it is great (for those of you watching now), but can you imagine having to sit through this while you were watching on TV?
Nola.com grabbed a great quote about the game from the Iceman:
“I told Pete,’C’mon man, you can’t be shooting those kind of shots, that ain’t no basketball,'” former San Antonio Spurs swingman Gervin recalled of the televised H-O-R-S-E contest he lost to Maravich. “He said, ‘Well, Ice, you gotta do it.’ He sat on the floor and banked it a shot. I said, ‘C’mon on Pete. What are you doing?'”
Apologies for the spoiler alert, but Pete won this one. Below you can check out some of the things that the Iceman did during his career, because Mondays are boring.
