This wasn’t your typical pitcher-umpire staredown. It did not consist of a simple glance behind the plate by a frustrated pitcher and the umpire briefly removing his mask to return the favor.
The duel between Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner and Joe West on Thursday night was legendary. Bumgarner, as is routine in most of West’s games behind the plate grew sick of both his strike zone consistency and his unforgiving attitude. As a result, during the sixth inning of their 5-4 loss to the Padres, he took a little extra time in-between batters to give West a vicious death stare…and West did the same.
Be sure to watch catcher Buster Posey, who looks like a terrified 5-year-old screaming “MOM AND DAD ARE FIGHTING AGAIN!”
