Things didn’t go so smoothly for the Mets during their Tuesday night matchup against the Nationals.
With ace Matt Harvey on the mound, the Mets trailed by two runs when Michael A. Taylor hit a grounder up the middle with the bases loaded. Taylor should’ve been held to a single, but instead Yoenis Cespedes completely missed the ball and it rolled toward the wall to give the Nationals four runs on an embarrassing little-league grand slam.
Just when the momentum seemed to have shifted in the Nationals’ favor, the Mets somehow stormed back to win 8-7. The victory put New York six games ahead of Washington for the NL East lead.
