Maddison Keeney was in fourth place heading into her final round at the World Aquatics Championships in Russia.
Then this happened.
Keeney’s decision to abandon her forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 twist attempt mid-dive was extremely costly. The 0.0 score plummeted her from 4th place all the way to last place in the 12-diver competition.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, this is not the first time that Keeney has faltered during a crucial moment in a tournament. She also balked on her second-to-last dive at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games where she ended up getting the silver medal.
