Clemson pitcher Clate Schmidt was diagnosed with cancer in early June, but he was given a reason to smile on Wednesday.
Schmidt’s brother Clarke announced via his Twitter on Wednesday that Clate started treatment for nodular sclerosing lymphoma.

Just hours later, the Boston Red Sox made Clate’s dream come true by selecting the right-hander in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft.
It’s an amazing story, and we hope Clate has the speediest of recoveries.
