Technically, every athlete is overpaid. After all, they’re earning millions upon millions of dollars to play a sport that the average person would play for free.
There are, however, athletes who perform well enough to warrant the ridiculous contracts given to them. Unfortunately for some teams, that kind of luck didn’t go their way and they’re stuck paying some hefty cash to players who don’t deserve it.
Surely you could add a number of names to this list of overpaid athletes, but here are the one’s who immediately come to mind:
Alex Rodriguez, IF, New York Yankees
Contract: 10 years, $275 million
2015 base salary: $21 million
A-Rod is actually playing pretty well this season for the Bronx Bombers, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s the most overpaid player in baseball. After being suspended for PED use in 2014, his base salary for the 2015 season is $21 million. He’s currently enjoying a 10-year, $275 million contract.
