A recent baseball game between D’Iberville and Hancock High (Miss.) featured an absurd 8-7-6 double play, thanks to center fielder Travis Bender misplaying a line drive. In the bottom of the fifth inning of a one-run game, Bender whiffed on the ball — for what would have been a solid catch in its own right — and it bounced off his head. Normally, such a blunder would have led to at least one base runner scoring, if not two (there were runners on second and third). Instead, the ball caromed about 60 feet into left field, directly into the glove of left fielder Jay Deshoung.
Deshoung casually tossed the ball to second base for a force out as both Hancock base runners — having nearly reach third base and home plate — stood in stunned disbelief. Exactly how they drew it up in practice, right?
