Sunday afternoon’s Blues-Red Wings game in Detroit was a tightly contested battle that needed overtime to find a winner and, ultimately, was decided by a controversial play that possibly should not have counted.
With the Red Wings starting OT on the power play, Justin Abdelkader crashed the net and scored on a rebound just 24 seconds into the extra frame, but he did so with a broken stick.
According to Rule 10.3 in the league’s official rulebook, players are not allowed to take part in play on the ice unless they drop the broken stick.

The play was not reviewed and the Wings took home the extra point, which can’t be sitting well with the Blues and their fans.
