I think it is safe to say that this will be the most heartwarming sports story you’ll hear about today.
Desiree Andrews is an eighth-grade cheerleader at Lincoln Middle School in Wisconsin who has Down’s Syndrome. Andrews was at a boys’ basketball game when she began to get picked on by some of those in the audience. That’s when three players, Chase Vasquez, Scooter Terrien and Miles Rodriguez, stopped the game by walking off-court, and defending Andrews from the bullying.
Now, the students have rallied around Andrews and make sure that she doesn’t has to walk to classes alone. The basketball game incident has also inspired a new nickname for the school gym – “Dee’s House.”
The athletic director tells us the name has stuck and he’s planning to make a banner officially calling the gym “Dee’s House.”
