Jose Altuve is the shortest active player in Major League Baseball, so sometimes he has to get creative to make up for his lack of height. Take Tuesday night, for example, when the Astros second baseman needed to fight off a high pitch during a hit-and-run situation against the Rangers.
The pitch was up around Altuve’s head so – instead of letting it go and leaving his teammate hanging out to dry on the basepaths – Altuve jumped and took a hack at the high heat. Not only did he amazingly manage to make contact with the pitch, he also managed to GET ON TOP OF IT. That was bad news for the Rangers’ catcher, who took the foul tip right off the leg.
I, for one, am totally in favor of Altuve jump-swinging every time.
