Sure, Under Armour may have lost out on signing Kevin Durant after Nike decided to match UA’s offer sheet to KD but the sports brand did sign Gisele to model its women’s line of clothing in the meantime.
Gisele is the first model that Under Armour will work with. Up until this point, UA had mostly signed female athletes to be representatives of their brand but the women’s athletic apparel market is growing at such an impressive rate that branching out in that department makes sense:
Athletic apparel manufacturers and retailers are reaping the benefits. Under Armour Inc., once known largely for its compression gear worn by football players, expects its annual revenue to surge 29% this year to $2.91 billion, fueled by its expansion into women’s wear, youth apparel and footwear.
Gisele is the world’s most well-compensated model according to Forbes, so this Under Armour deal will presumably help her secure that spot again next year. Last year, Gisele earned a staggering $47 million. Her next closest competition? Adriana Lima and Doutzen Kroes, who earned $8 million a piece over the same time frame.
In other words, Under Armour secured the services of the world’s most business-savvy model.
Of course, it probably helped Under Armour’s cause that one of their more famous athletes is some guy named Tom Brady.
